The 4 Best Microblogging Blogs on the Web

Posted by: Ivan Brezak Brkan on: 22/04/2009

“Microblogging killed the blog star”, said one microblogger. Au contraire! Blogs have only benefited from the advent of microblogging. Some have even taken upon themselves to inform us about how to microblogging, where to do it and how. Here’s a round up of the Shout’Em team’s favourite microblogging blogs, in no particular order:

140Char

140Char

140Char

140Char is a all around news and information blog led by Dan Thornton and his two mates. While not changing his son’s nappies (as he states on the blog), he’s hard at work building up 140Char. This blog includes not only news, but also tools, a job search as well as several case studies on the use of microblogging. One popular series of articles is “Tweet of the Week” which includes quotes of the best tweet found on Twitter, for example this one by @sizemore:

CNN cameraman just asked us to shut up as he needs just one shot of us working. When you see this on CNN we’re all typing wanker.

Microblink

Microblink

Microblink

Microblink focuses on the latest news surrounding the world of microblogging. While Rob and Mike edit it, their lead developer Mark is also a contributor. While they might cover a lot of news, the quality commentary is not hard to miss. Actually, the best Microblink articles start with a title ending with a question mark:
- How much Would You Pay for Twitter?
- Is There a Format for Retweeting?
- Can Microblogs Be Used for Microfunding?

Pistachio

Pistachio

Pistachio

Pistachio is led by Laura @Pistachio Fitton who tries to help us get an in depth idea of how to use Twitter and other similar technologies to make business practices both more productive and intelligent. She also wrote a white paper on “Enterprise Microsharing” (a.k.a. the internal use of Twitter). At the moment she’s writing Twitter for Dummies which we’ll see in July of this year. Her work has also been featured in Seth Godin’s Tribes and Guy Kawasaki says she’s the one who convinced him to start using Twitter.

TwitTip

TwitTip

TwitTip

TwiTip is a blog founded by Darren Rowse a.k.a. mr. ProBlogger. After doing everything that could be done in blogging and having great successes along the way, Darren just couldn’t shy away from microblogging. It helped him grow his personal brand and still to this day drives significant traffic to his online businesses, among them ProBlogger and Digital Photography School. TwiTip is focused on tips and guides on how to use microblogging and less focused on news. You can learn how to build your personal brand using Twitter, discover the anatomy of a successful tweet as well as using Twitter to save money.

What about you? What’s your favorite microblogging blog?

All good calls. Be nice to (maybe) get a shout next time. (http://twittercism.com) :)

Wow! Cheers for the recommendation – for reasons which will become apparent shortly, along with the fact it’s effectively a solo effort at the moment, posting has slipped slightly but there’s a lot of new stuff planned beginning by the end of this week.

It’s great to be alongside 3 great blogs that I also recommend – I’ve chatted with the guys at Microblink, and exchanged the occasional email with Laura – her success in raising awareness and money for charity earlier in the year was pretty inspirational. And I’ve got a lot of respect for Darren from his start with ProBlogger…

It’d be good to email/chat to you guys as ShoutEm is on my list of things I should have already got around to covering!

Thanks for the shout. As a member of the Microblink team, I can gladly say that I subscribe to 3 blogs listed here. Where one of us lacks, another picks up the slack. I’d love to say Microblink is the best, but there’s room for all of us to pitch in our own unique content.

@Sheamus -Wasn’t following Twittercism to be honest. Nice blog. :)

@Dan – You deserve the mention mate. I’ll send you an e-mail and we can go from there. :)

@Mark – The more, the merrier

I find MicroBlink site pretty plain looking and it doesn’t present itself as a social networking tool. More of like an editorial page. But still pretty brilliant!
