Plans for the future

Posted by: Ilija Brajkovic on: 22/12/2009

As we’re coming closer to the end of this year, it is good to set up the plans for the next one. Last year was very exciting for all of us, as we’ve seen ShoutEm growing very fast from the moment it was made public at the LeWeb ‘08 conference exactly a year ago. At this moment, we host more than 10000 mobile social networks, with that number raising every day. The whole team worked very hard to introduce some new features, and bring the concepts of some new interesting features which we will develop in 2010.

What are our plans for the 2010?

1. We plan to position ShoutEm as a service for creating mobile social networks.

shoutem_iphone_app Niche microblogging definitely has a bright future, but there is a huge space for a mobile social networks. As smart phones are gaining more and more market share, we think that we can, and we should offer a service that can connect all mobile users and offer them a new experience. We’ve already started with developing applications for the mobile operating systems, with iPhone, BlackBerry and Java applications already available for use.

2. Location aware applications and networks

places_map With most of the smart phones already equipped with some kind of a GPS device, we want to take the opportunity and use a GPS data. We plan to make a service which will be able to create location-aware shouts. What do we need that for? Wouldn’t be nice to come to a restaurant and using your mobile phone see all shouts ever written in that restaurant? We also plan to add some additional features on the top of that service, like rewards, titles, etc.

We will also display a list of points of interests near a user, which he can use to find any spot that he needs.

3. Augmented reality

AR1 On the top of location-aware shouts feature, we will include support for augmented reality. Users will be able to see all shouts written at a certain place just by pointing their mobile device camera at that place. It will also display a list of your friends who recently visited that place, with their avatar and information displayed in a “bubble”.

4. New design

Exclusively on ShoutEm blog, we present you some screenshots of new designs for ShoutEm networks. Please note that this is only a proposal, some things might change, but you can see a general design and all new features integrated in it. Also please note that these are not all designs that we plan to have.

With new design and features, we are trying to provide network administrators a way to create more Facebook-like mobile social networks. Microblogging will still be one of ShoutEm’s core features, but with integration of all features mentioned above, we think it’s time to redesign our networks to provide better user experience for our users. These changes will affect current html code, and also some parts of CSS files. Network administrators will have to change their current CSS files if they want to achieve the same look of some parts of their mobile social networks as before. We will give some time to network administrators to adopt to new html and CSS codes, so we won’t enable new design immediately.

This is a huge improvement for the ShoutEm and network administrators, as we’ll be able to provide new features and a new user experience for our users. It will also provide better Search Engine Optimization (SEO) for ShoutEm networks, which can help network administrators to have much more members. We strongly believe that our new features will help network administrators to create fantastic mobile social networks, attract much more users and boost network traffic.

Cool plans guys, woww i am impressed… it’s just a pity the screenshots are so small so i cant have a good look at it to see what’s on the pages. Could we have bigger screenshots so we can see it better?

I love the augumented reality and the locationsaware applications, but, what if members want to stay anonymous and don’t want anyone to have an idea where they are shouting from?

Especially for my erotic shoutem network, my members like to stay anonymous… can they?

Thanks,
Zohra

This is really a significant update; it is awesome and very impressive.

In particular, I like this new biz strategy and interface performance. Great work, thank you ShoutEm Guys.
(Although I have to give up the older hard work to re-examine the new CSS settings, but I am very excited :) .)

My hope is to keep providing enough customization for Site Creators. Also has a suggestion that is to add a complete “Group” like feature. Could you consider about that, please?

May everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday Season :D .

I like the improvements that you guys are planning for in 2010. I like the location awareness upgrade features. Nice. However, I hope you guys merge with Google Map so that when users inputs location, there is a marker to pinpoint the exact place on the map (for web and mobile app). I like the “list of points of interests near a user” feature.

As far as the new Facebook-like design, I’m not sure if I like that too much. I prefer the microblogging (Twitter) look rather than Facebook. It feels more like an open community rather than a closed one like Facebook. I think Shoutem should give admins option on Twitter and Facebook look. I would hate to lose Twitter like layout. It would change the whole dynamic of my site.

I think Shoutem should be improving on their existing system. Such as their Search Field finding more relevant shouts that pertain to keywords, Facebook Forwarding feature working properly, etc. Also, Shoutem should start designing their feature to implement paid ads as shouts that rotate automatically with every 10 to 20 posts so that admins could start monetizing their web network as well as Shoutem.

One last thing, I believe that if Shoutem allowed new users to join Networks by using Twitter/facebook account thru mobile app there would be a high increase in membership. Many people use their mobile apps to access their social network sites. By offering this feature, a new user would not have to get off their mobile phone and go to computer to join. They can easily sign off “Facebook app” download Shoutem App and log in using FB aacount info. Easy. The recruiting process would be a lot easier. Especially, if admin is out and about and talking to someone outside of a computer place.

Anyway, I like what you guys are doing overall and thank you for the update info.

Look great….I can’t wait! However I do hope the facebook forwarding is improving.
Thanks

yeeees i am

[...] 2009 was a great year for us, as more than 10.000 mobile social networks have been created using ShoutEm and we have received many awards and recognitions, but we are really looking forward to 2010 and new features that we plan to introduce. [...]

Will need to be careful with having all comments from the shout network popping up on augmented reality and the points of interest functions. Panoramio on Goggle maps for example becomes very cluttered and practically unusable – hate to see this happen here.

Be great to have a filter so that only those in your network showing up and also if you go into one of the individual social networks sites that only their shouts or places of interest showed up – for example creating a scavenger hunt or car rally for your friends or even those not in your network and they get clues by going to the next destination and using the augmented reality system by going through from miniblog site

Is the Google maps already activated???? For example if you put the address of a location, does it provide a google map for that location in the thread feed?

You can create a location using our mobile applications. We will probably remove the web check-in, because it proved un-reliable.
