Wow! May was quite busy for the ShoutEm crew, doing demos and talks like crazy. One of the goals of moving me to NY was to build recognition within the NY tech community and make some friends. May was my first full month in NY so far and here are the results: WordPress meetup, NY Tech Meetup, NYC Mobile Forum, General Assembly Demo Night, Blogworld NYC. When I put it down like this it looks impressive even to me, who always wants more ;). Read further for more info on each demo and the videos.
Apr. 26th – Services That Make Your Site Awesome!
WordPress NYC Meetup is one of the largest WP groups with over 1,100 members and meets monthly, usually on the third Tuesday of the month. They cover a wide range of topics for all levels of users.
NY Tech Meetup
May. 4th – May 2011 NY Tech Meetup
Founded in 2004 by meetup.com founder Scott Heiferman, the NY Tech Meetup has over 17,300 members, representing professionals from all parts of the New York technology community. NYTM centers around its monthly events, where members gather to watch emerging companies demo new ideas, hear leading-edge thinking on technology topics, and build their networks to develop their businesses. NYTM has been integral in the birth of New York’s new Silicon Alley, with nearly every notable new company, including Foursquare and Tumblr, making their debut at a NYTM demo.
Sasa and myself have been honored to present in front of the 800 NY tech professionals. Demo worked perfectly and was very well accepted. Check out the video for applauses ;).
Here is also a great review by The Flack.
NYC Mobile Forum
May. 4th – Mobile Demos & Crit Session!
This is one of our favorite demos and is organized by a great mobile entrepreneur Amanda Moskowitz. Group is for folks doing interesting things in the mobile space. The goal is to inspire mobile innovation in New York City through thought exchange and networking.
ShoutEm’s own Louis gave a demo and received very nice feedback from the audience. In his own words: “People really liked it and asked smart questions. It was great.”
May. 9th – Demo Night
General Assembly community first Demo Night with Alexis Ohanian, cofounder of Reddit, Hipmunk, and Breadpig as MC.
By then it was already a routine, so we a got bit too relaxed about demoing and were missed a mobile projector as well. So in overall the effect was not as powerful as at NYTM.
May. 26th – Expand Your Audience with Mobile Apps
BlogWorld & New Media Expo hosted it’s first east coast event at the Jacob K. Javits Center in New York City this May 24 – 26!
I had a panel on Mobile apps and how blogger and SMB’s can use them to extend their audience and add more value to their websites with our cool LBS and mobile features. I also had Dan Patterson from ABC News Radio on the stage helping me to make this discussion interesting. Overall feedback was really, really great and I’ve met ton of new interesting people. Here is a deck from the panel.
And again we’ve met our friends from Zemanta who were sponsors and exhibitors over there. I also won brand new Zemanta T-Shirt, yeah!

So isn’t that impressive? I think it is. Stay tuned for the June wrap up. It is going to be all about business, no demos 😉
